  1. What does being an Entrepreneur mean to you?

Someone who sees opportunities in all kinds of places but also knows how to make money from their ideas. I wouldn’t call myself an Entrepreneur though as I’m great at seeing opportunities to help people, but I’m not so good at seeing the money!

  1. What did you want to be when you grew up?

Not like everybody else!

I come from quite a small middle-England town and all I knew was that I did NOT want to end up like everyone around me – married with kids, a car, a mortgage and a ‘good-enough’ job.

Career advice for girls in the eighties was pretty poor and it wasn’t until I moved to Brighton at the age of 23 that I saw real-life examples of people living all kinds of different lives. It was here that I realised I could be anything I wanted to. I love that most of the people I know have jobs that didn’t even exist when we were young – viva la Internet!

  1. When did you decide to be self-employed?

At the end of 2008. I was working for a company that just took what they could out of you, gave nothing in return and only cared about how much money you could make for them. A friend’s husband was a professional Juggler (only in Brighton!) and he needed some research admin for four hours a week at £10 per hour. I realised that if a Juggler needed a PA then lots of other people would too. I set up and registered my business within a week of having this realisation.

  1. Who inspires you?

People who see past typically ‘traditional’ ways to earn a living. Quite a few people I know make money online or in new and innovative ways that didn’t previously exist. I’m inspired by people who have the courage to follow their own path unswayed by what other people think they should be doing. Life is too short to sleepwalk through it.

  1. What is non-negotiable in your schedule?

Apart from a morning coffee, not much! I try not to work on Sundays but I always wanted to have a working life that was part of my life not something distinctly separate. So I don’t really have a set schedule – sometimes I might go to the cinema in the afternoon and work on a Saturday and other times I’ll work from 9-5. It depends.

  1. What makes you feel ARGH!?

Feeling under pressure time and commitment-wise. I have two businesses with many components; when they occasionally synchronise it means I might have 100 essential things to do at the same time and I just need to get fit them all in somehow. I’m good with time-management, and it’s not often I’m snowed under but I can feel a bit stressed when it does happen.

  1. What do you do that helps you to feel more AHHH!?

Just the thought of Star Trek, crochet and playing with my cat immediately makes me feel calm! Order soothes my brain, so running the hoover round and tidying up my immediate surroundings can go a long way to reinstating calm. I work from home so a walk on the beach works wonders at blowing the cobwebs away.

  1. What would you like your epitaph to read?

Surrounded by Idiots’ just because it amuses me.
